Sen. Monguno is currently serving as a first-term Senator representing Borno North Senatorial District in the 10th Senate under the Platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC),  Senator Mohammed was elected as a member of the House in 1992 at the age of 26 years. He served as a committee member on the Application of Sharia law in Borno State in 2000 He was re-elected into the House of Representatives in 2007 and has been a member of the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th assemblies and served as the Majority Chief Whip (2019-2023) under the All Progressive Congress (APC).
